ALL ABOUT US
1840 Farmhouse and Vineyard is a family-run winery located in the rolling hills of Orono, Ontario. Inspired by the unique terroir of the Oak Ridges Moraine, the long history of our property, and the character of our 1840s Stonehouse and barn, we strive to create a unique wine experience. Bring your family to explore our farm and vineyards. We encourage you to escape the stress of everyday life, relax in your favourite spot with a glass of Chardonnay, and fall in love with our farm as we have!

Story
Get to Know Us
In January 2013, Natasha & Philip bought the historic stone home and farm that is locally known in Orono as the Rutherford House. They appreciated the long history of the property and looked forward to building a place for their horses and family to come. After much discussion and research the idea of planting a vineyard became a topic of conversation while walking the fields on the west side of the property. They took the leap and started with 6 acres planting in the Spring of 2020. The vineyard was initially focused on Philip's love, Chardonnay and Baco Noir a shared favourite. An old French hybrid, Marechal Foch was added to the vineyard, as this is a favourite of Natasha. The initial planting also included two acres of Marquette, a cold hardy hybrid that produces a pinot noir style grape. Subsequently 3.5 acres of cold hardy varieties have been added. We were very excited to open our on site tasting room and store, in our restored stone barn in June 2022. We look forward to what is to come as we continue to grow the vineyard and play with new blends and wines.
